Janel owns and operates Axon Music Therapy which provides music therapy services to the City of Cambridge and private clients in the KW area. Janel graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) in 2016 with a Bachelors of Music Therapy. She received Honours with Distinction and also attained a Minor in Psychology. Janel is a Board-Certified Music Therapist with the Canadian Association of Music Therapy (CAMT).
While at WLU, Janel played trombone, piano and guitar. She completed her 1000 hour internship at Sunnyside Senior Services in Kitchener, working on long-term care and rehabilitation teams. In June 2019, Janel completed the Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) Fellowship in Toronto and now focuses on evidence-based, goal-oriented work in her sessions.
Janel teaches private guitar, ukulele, voice and piano lessons at Morphy Music in Cambridge. She draws from popular and classical, folk songs and children's music and encourages students to pursue learning music they enjoy. Janel uses humour, composing, improvising and performing to inspire her students, supporting them to work towards their goals including exams and performances.
