Mariah Story, MTA, MT-BC, BMT

Mariah is an Accredited Music Therapist in the Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge area. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2019. Mariah honed a person-centered, resource-oriented, and humanistic approach to music therapy in the mental health setting while completing her internship at Homewood Health Center in Guelph, Ontario. Mariah’s clinical experience extends to children and adults with developmental and cognitive disabilities.

Her principle instrument is the piano; however, she also integrates guitar, ukulele and other instruments into much of the work she does. Mariah provides both music therapy and music instruction to all individuals and focuses on abilities and client preferences to meet their needs in both an in-person and digital environment.

As a practicing music therapist, clinician, and teacher, Mariah strives to challenge and upend systems that perpetuate discrimination and stigma. She is passionate about empowering others with musical tools in order to reinforce growth and restore agency. Mariah specializes in supporting creativity and self-expression through music and improvisational methods. Mariah’s work embraces the holistic effectiveness of music, recognizing its impact on emotional, psychological, and physiological well-being.
